    Pico de Orizaba Mexico
    Also known as Citlaltepetl, which means “Mountain of the star” in Nahuatl. Pico de Orizaba is the tallest mountain in Mexico. and the third tallest peak in North America. Found on the border between Puebla and Veracruz, this volcano is a true challenge for mountaineers, as well as an amazing experience for anyone who loves nature.

    Did you know that there were 14 glaciers which started to melt in 1940? In the last 10 years, four out of the five remaining glaciers have finished melting, leaving only the Jamba glacier standing.


    Popocatépetl, or “Smoking Mountain” in Nahuatl, is the second highest peak in Mexico and one of the most active volcanoes in the country. This beautiful peak rises along the borders between Morelos, Puebla, and Mexico State. Every year, people from Xalitzintla and surrounding communities take offerings to the top of the volcano to ask for good crops and rain throughout the year.

    Also known as “The Sleeping Woman” due to its figure which resembles a woman laying down with crossed arms on her chest; the Iztlaccihuatl is the thirds tallest peak of the country. This inactive volcano found in the Iztla-Popo national park is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers and it is famous for its love legend.

    The legend tells the story of the brave warrior Popocatepetl and the beautiful princess Iztaccihuatl who’s destinies were sealed transforming into these amazing mountains.


    Nevado, destinations mexico
    Found in the State of Mexico, the Nevado de Toluca, also known as Xinantecatl, is the fourth tallest peak in Mexico. The unique thing about this inactive volcano is that it holds two lagoons in its extinct crater: the Laguna del Sol and Laguna de la Luna (The Sun and Moon lagoons).

    The Nevado de Toluca is also home to the rare rose of the snow (Eryngium proteiflorum), which only flourishes in the highest places of the country. Although there are many mountains, peaks, and volcanoes in Mexico, there are also many cities with high altitudes above the ocean.
